What To Expect At Your Newborn Session - My Session Flow!

What to expect at your newborn session with me!

(Don’t worry - we keep it verrrrry chill and relaxing.)

First off, congratulations on your beautiful new baby!! As a mama of three, I know the wonderful, sleep-deprived, blissful life of a newborn mama. You want (and neeeeed) to sleep but you also can’t stop staring at (and sometimes worrying about!) your new little bundle of cuteness. So when you book a newborn session, I want you to relax and know what my session flow is so that you can know what to expect!

01. baby-only, naturally posed

At the start of our session, I say hello to any older siblings and give them a quick run-down of what we’re going to do. Then I set up my newborn beanbag with a few neutral swaddles. I start by photographing all the beautiful details of your newborn in a few simple poses. Usually this lasts 15-20 minutes, depending on how long it takes to settle your baby.

02. Mum & baby only
03. Dad & baby only

After we get details of your baby, we then photograph you with just baby and then your partner with just baby. Usually, your newborn is happiest in your arms, so we spend a lot of time cuddling during your newborn session ;)

I want you and your family to feel relaxed! You’re in your own home so I want you to feel free to make a snack, have some coffee, etc during our session. ALSO! If your baby needs a nappy change or feed, do it! We take our time and make sure your family has everything they need.

04. full family photos

At this point, most siblings are getting more curious about what’s happening. They’re also starting to be a bit more comfortable with me taking photos of them. So I usually take toddler’s lead with when they feel ready for photos. This usually means them hopping into a family photo and then taking some sibling-only photos.

05. baby & siblings

This is usually a suuuuuper quick part of the session!! Siblings sometimes LOVE posing with baby, but often times they’d rather snuggle mom or dad. So we’ll try to get a quick cuddle and/or kiss with the siblings but we never force siblings into this if they’re not ready. They’re going through a huge transition so I do my best to respect older siblings and their needs during our session!

We then grab a few more details of baby and another round of family photos outside if the weather permits! Again, I want your family to be relaxed and able to fully enjoy your session.

And that’s about it!! We take our time and follow baby’s cues and needs throughout the session. I know you’re tired and want to get beautiful photos without all the stress. So that’s what I’m there for.

If you have any questions, please get in touch! I’m always happy to chat.
