TIME TOGETHER
We’re thankful for our health and this time together, in our home sweet home.
New Zealand is in the middle of a 4 week lockdown, so we have been spending our days mostly at home together, with the occasional walk to the beach. I’m so thankful for our yard and also the Nintendo Switch we just got for Christmas haha! I fully believe that extra screen time during the lockdown is necessary for kids and parents alike. Max will have a screen time session while Cora naps, which gives me some “me time” to read a book & sit in the sun. I’m currently reading The Upside of Being Down by Jen Gotch as well as Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Both are so amazing! If you’re on Goodreads, come find me & share your favorite books.
Some highlights as of late that I want to remember:
Max’s 5th birthday! Wow, 5 feels like a big one. We had a Spiderman “party” with his grandparents, who live on the same property as us.
Cora and I had our last nursing session a few nights ago. It was very bittersweet and I tried to encourage her to nurse for longer (with everything going on right now, it felt wrong to stop). But she just self-weaned and was no longer interested. I’m very proud of us after a tough, emotional rollercoaster start to our breastfeeding journey. But we pulled through and I’m super proud.
Cora has become much more independent, although no first steps yet! She loves to explore, but will also happily crawl into my lap and watch Max run around.
Max & Tim always have nightly trampoline bouncing sessions. I might have promised Max I’d learn how to do a backflip on the trampoline with him. Better get practicing haha!
Here are some photos from the past couple weeks. I’m making it a point to shoot with my “real camera” more and to also take little videos of the kids more often.
As tough as it is to be home-bound with the kids for 4 weeks, I am so thankful for our health and our ability to stay safe in our home. I’m also thankful for the Prime Minister of NZ, Jacinda Ardern, and her amazing leadership through all of this. She has proven to be an incredible source of comfort and knowledge in the midst of uncertainty. I hope you’re all staying safe and healthy. Kia Kaha.
