"What location should we choose?" - One of the questions I get asked the most!
Choosing a location for your session is really important, so no wonder I get asked for location suggestions so frequently!
When clients reach out to me, asking for locations suggestions, I usually suggest a few things. Here are my top tips for deciding on the location of your family session:
Choose a location that is special to you.
Is that your home? Let’s start there!
Do your kids love the beach? Let’s go to your favourite one!
Does your family looooveee a cafe date? I’m SO down for a mid-session coffee while I photograph you guys enjoying your local.Split the session up!
I love utilising multiple locations during a session. My favourite way to do this is to start off in your home and go for a walk around your neighborhood or drive to a nearby park or beach. This adds a great variety to your gallery and offers a nice break for the kids - and parents ;)Consider location and light
Are you leaning towards a beach session? Great! The light at the beach is so beautiful around sunrise or sunset. So whether you wanna meet me first thing in the morning for some cozy sunrise shots or catch the last light of the day, beach sessions are best scheduled in the morning or evening hours!
Otherwise, in-home sessions are a bit more flexible! With these, the late morning or afternoon tend to work best.
In Auckland, we are absolutely spoiled for choice regarding location options.
Some of my faves are:
Cornwall Park
Bethell’s Beach
Muriwai
Long Bay Regional Park
Auckland Domain
Point Chev
Hibiscus Coast beaches (my local, so no travel fee!)
I know it can seem kind of daunting to choose a location but I promise we can create beautiful images, no matter where we are! So, start thinking of places that are special to you and your family and go from there. And if you need any suggestions, I’m always happy to dream up options together!
